Acupuncture is completely safe during pregnancy. Acupuncturists learn which points are effective and which points to avoid during which trimester. Certain points are contraindicated during pregnancy so it is important to let your acupuncturist know if you are pregnant.
What conditions can acupuncture help with during pregnancy?
There are lots of pregnancy related conditions acupuncture can help with. These include morning sickness, lower back pain, sciatica, fatigue, heartburn, indigestion, haemorrhoids, headaches, insomnia, stress and anxiety, breech and preparing for labour. If you experience any of these or any other pregnancy related symptoms let you acupuncturist know.
When should I go for acupuncture?
You can come as soon as you are pregnant, especially if you experience nausea and other pregnancy related symptoms. Depending on the symptoms you have, you may need regular sessions or come at regular intervals throughout your pregnancy. Your acupuncturist will discuss this with you.
What happens after I have given birth?
After delivery you can still come for treatments. Acupuncture is really great for aftercare, especially when you feel tired, anxious, low mood or depressed. Acupuncture helps you to recover and restore your strength after giving birth.
