Smoking: Stop smoking

October is Stop Smoking month – also known as Stoptober.

We all know of the effects of nicotine on our health, increasing the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. But it also affects our immune system and the functioning of other organs.

Did you know there are over 4000 chemicals in tobacco; many of them known to cause cancer.

The effects of stopping

The good news is that as soon as we stop smoking our body starts to repair itself. As soon as one day after stopping the risk of heart disease decreases and lung capacity improves. Also the sense of taste and smell will improve after a few days.

How acupuncture can help

Acupuncture helps reduce cravings for tobacco. It also lessens withdrawal symptoms and helps to soothe the nervous system. The natural hormone beta-endorphin is released by having acupuncture which helps physical relaxation and reduces pain sensitivity.

For stopping smoking we use the so called NADA protocol which consists of ear acupuncture and we add some points on the body too. After treatment we may put some ear seeds on particular points in the ear which help reduce cravings and calm the mind.
