Summer is here and it’s sizzling outside. How to stay cool this Summer so you can enjoy it. Here are some tips.
Stay Hydrated
Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking enough water when it’s hot. Our bodies consist for about 80% of water so regularly sipping water throughout the day is a great way to replenish yourself. However, overly iced or frozen drinks can shock the stomach and impair its smooth functioning and lead to digestive problems and headaches. Better to take room temperature drinks to keep your guts happy.
Eat more Cooling Foods
In Chinese medicine foods have either a warming, cooling or neutral action. Adding more cooling foods helps us in Summer. Watermelon especially helps us stay cool. Other foods to add are cucumbers, watercress, green leafy veg and salads.
Cook with Cooling Spices
In Summer add spices that are cooling. Cumin, fennel and coriander are very flavoursome and have a cooling effect.
Take a scarf
You may think scarves are for winter but think again. A light cotton scarf can protect you from the glaring sun. And it can also prevent you from getting a chill or a cold. Keeping your neck protected from a cold summer breeze, or from ferocious aircons in restaurants and hotels can prevent a summer cold.
Encourage Joy
Joy is the emotion of the Fire Element, which governs Summer. Enjoy the abundance of nature,with all the plants and flowers at their peak. Make the most of the long evenings and light this season. Delight in your friendships and hang out and laugh together. All these are great ways to replenish yourself and stock up for the seasons to come.
